Sustainability is an expression of a technology’s or culture’s wear and tear on the processes in nature.

Sustainability is also an economic, social, ethical and ecological point of view that is quite controversial. According to this, the intention is to structure civilisation and human activity in a way that, on the one hand, can meet the needs and aspirations of society and citizens in the present, while preserving biodiversity and natural ecosystems on the other.

The whole idea of sustainability is based on reducing climate impact and to ensure more efficient use of resources. Planning and action must have a goal of maintaining these ideals in the future. Sustainability therefore impacts all levels from the local neighbourhood to the planet as a whole.

To put it simply, sustainability will create the best possible conditions for people and the environment both at present and in the distant future. As stated in the Brundtland Report from 1987, sustainability is that which “provides the best for people and the environment without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs”.

We are a member of Netværk for Bæredygtig Erhvervsudvikling NordDanmark (NBE) [Network for Sustainable Business Development in Northern Denmark], which is a North Jutlandic network with an ambition to put North Jutland at the forefront of the green transition. NBE strengthens the competitiveness of companies in Northern Jutland through a targeted effort for sustainability within the environment and energy. As a public-private network, NBE builds a bridge between the private business community, the public sector and, not least, knowledge institutions.
