POLYCARBONATE (PC)

Polycarbonate is a strong and impact-resistant type of plastic

Polycarbonate (abbreviated as PC) belongs to the group of thermoplastic polymers and has its name because of the content of carbonate groups. The substance is produced from bisphenol A (BPA) and phosgene or alternatively from BPA and diphenyl carbonate.

Polycarbonate is very tough, strong and extremely impact-resistant. However, it is easily scratched, which is why it is often coated, for example, in the production of eyeglass lenses and parts for cars. It has unmatched transparency in visible light with a better light transmission than many types of glass. It is often used for cover screens, light panels, domes and sight glasses.
